Short description

A rare, limited-production Amarone Riserva, Pian di Mezzo is produced from only a few barriques of Ca’ Botta Amarone selected after ageing. Made entirely from appassimento grapes and fermented in the patented Fermentino Ca’ Botta® system, it combines blackberry and black cherry with dark chocolate, spice, leather and subtle smoke in a dense, mature and remarkably balanced wine with a long, complex finish.

Features

Pian di Mezzo represents the rare Riserva expression of Ca’ Botta’s Amarone style. Only a few barriques of Amarone become Pian di Mezzo after ageing, giving the wine its distinctive character of maturity, depth and complexity rather than sheer power.

Corvina Veronese, Corvinone and Rondinella are hand-harvested from hillside vineyards at 380–520 m above sea level, and the entire harvest is dried using the appassimento method. Fermentation in the patented Fermentino Ca’ Botta® system develops further richness and structure, while ageing in 225 L French-style barriques builds the mature, layered character expected of a Riserva.

Blackberry and black cherry lead the nose, followed by dark chocolate, green pepper, spice, leather, subtle smoke and nuts. The palate is broad, dense and layered, with ripe dark fruit, cocoa and savoury complexity held together by a balanced structure. Black cherry and almond emerge through the long, dry finish, giving the wine maturity, definition and remarkable persistence.

Food pairing

Excellent with venison, dry-aged or grilled beef, braised meats, roast lamb and mature cheeses. Its depth and evolved character also make Pian di Mezzo particularly rewarding to enjoy slowly on its own.
